Evaluating a Complex Environmental Education Initiative

2013 EENP Forum

Day 2: Sept 23, 2013 • 3:45pm • Ballard Hall Small Conference Room

By Patricia Jessup

The Great Lakes Stewardship Initiative (GLSI) evaluation illustrates the complexities of conducting an evaluation of a state-wide place-based environmental education initiative. This session uses the GLSI evaluation as an example to discuss the opportunities and challenges faced in conducting evaluations of complex initiatives that seek systemic change.

Dr. Patricia Jessup, an evaluation consultant based in Ann Arbor, MI, has been active in the field of evaluation for over a decade. She uses a systems orientation in her evaluation work. She has worked on numerous social service and education-related evaluations. Current evaluations include the evaluation of a place-based education initiative to foster stewardship of the Great Lakes among K-12 students, and an early childhood abuse prevention initiative.
